Join us on Sunday, April 30 at 2pm for a slideshow and presentation by Stan Allen, noted author and historian. He will share with us his photos of many of Oriental’s and the county’s pre-Civil War houses. Allen had the good fortune to grow up in two very different places at the same time, Fayetteville NC (with his parents) and Oriental (with his grandparents). Since the age of 12, when he discovered and fell in love with early NC architecture, he’s been studying that topic with a special interest in Pamlico County. He has visited and photographed many of the county’s early buildings, and regrettably has also watched many of them slowly or suddenly disappear. A majority were either within the boundaries of present day Oriental or only a few miles away. His presentation will revisit those early structures, by way of photographs, memories, artifacts and outright conjecture.
