This house is truly an heirloom. It was built for Claude and Caledonia Midyette Land, and was later sold to Caledonia’s brother Thomas Midyette, a fisherman and farmer. Right up to the present, it has been occupied, in succession, by three generations of Thomas Midyette descendants. A recent conversation with Claude’s granddaughter revealed a family memory of a bear emerging from the surrounding woods and walking down Broad Street right past their front gate!
