Historic property Gaston-bell-house image.

This house was one of a handful of homes in the area with a windmill. The windmill structure was over two stories high with a water tank on top and windmill on top of the tank. Another interesting feature is a full basement, unusual for Oriental. Dr. Bell, one of Oriental’s first physicians, presided over a smallpox epidemic in 1911 during which Raleigh specialists were consulted, and the town was put under quarantine.
