John Wiggins, a successful black tobacco farmer and contractor built this house located on the cemetery road outside the Town Gate. It is abandoned today, but the original skilled craftsmanship is still evident. Nearby on the upper part of Midyette Street stood several homes built for workers in the lumber mills. The area became known as ‘White City’ because the homes were whitewashed.
