The ‘ghost town’ of Lukens on South River released some of its memories when this house was put on a barge along with several other homes and floated across the Neuse River to Camp Creek. During the 1940s when storm-battered Lukens was losing population and the children wanted to go to high school, Oriental was the chosen destination. The Pittman family numbered all the parts before the house was taken apart for its journey northwest. Other homes from Lukens still remain near this location.
