I was out of the community for most of last week, so I do not have a lot of current Pamlico news. I do know that Pamlico did not get as much rain as expected because a friend had to water my plants for me while I was gone. I really appreciate all she does for me.
On Monday, May 8, the Pamlico Community mourned the death of Teresa Muse Cooney. Even though her funeral was in Bayboro, she was originally from Pamlico and she will be missed by her friends and family.
Roy and I were blessed to attend the 2017 Commencement at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA where our grandson, Justin Rodgers was graduating. Marissa Bucksot from Reelsboro, granddaughter of Carla Byrnes, also graduated. There may have been more graduating from Pamlico County that I am not aware of, considering the fact that there were 19,000 graduates. Williams Stadium was packed with 50,000 people for President Donald Trump’s commencement address. It was very inspirational address for those graduating.
We were doubly blessed to have our son, Kevin and his wife Suzie in America for the graduation celebration. They are in America for a short furlough from the mission field in Kenya. We are excited to announce that they will be speaking at Vandemere UMC on June 11, 2017 at the 9:30 service. Everyone is invited to attend, so mark your calendars now.
A bear ran across Trent Road in front of me when I was about a mile from home Saturday. It would have easily tipped the scales at 250-300 pounds.
On Sunday, May 14, we celebrated Mother’s Day. At Vandemere UMC, the mothers were treated to Krispy Kreme Donuts and Coffee before church. During church everyone received an artificial rose in remembrance of their mothers, and to the delight of the congregation, the pastor shared some comments about mothers from a group of second graders.
At Reelsboro UMC, the children and youth led the service, and I heard from a reliable source that instead of a “children’s time” they had an “adult’s time.” Several adults came forward to hear the special message; however, to the delight of the congregation they acted like children.
Many mothers were treated out to lunch by their children/families. Charlie’s Restaurant was still packed at closing time on Sunday. Celebrating birthdays in May are Vance Henries (5/18), Zachary Rodgers and Shannon Lee Wing (5/20), Dennis Stokes (5/25), and Suzie Rodgers (5/30). Celebrating their anniversary in May are Timothy and Veronica Jones (5/30).
Have a blessed week. Overwhelmed? Take Spiritual Vitamin O.
