Oriental, NC is a charming village that sits on the banks of the Neuse River. Southern charm is plentiful here.
Have you ever considered becoming a Realtor when you retire? I retired from a 30+ year teaching career and became a Realtor, first in VA and later in NC upon moving to Oriental. So, it certainly is possible! Navigating a new career in a small town can be a challenge. Here are some tips I’ve learned along the way.
How will you earn listings in a town where everyone has known a Realtor for years? Bring your enthusiasm, your unique talents and a desire to succeed. Be genuine and be yourself – Oriental folks value honesty, integrity and hard work – and they can’t be fooled. Oriental will welcome you and cheer you on. Try something new. You’ll find new ideas not only accepted, they’ll be embraced! One of my first sales came as a result of convincing my Seller client to allow my Buyers to “test drive” their vacation home by staying there for the weekend. It meant making up beds and doing some cleaning, before and after, but it resulted in a sale!
Oriental appeals to creative people and is home to many respected authors, photographers, artists and professionals.
How will you earn the trust of Buyers coming to Oriental? You’ll need to be knowledgeable, available and work in their best interest. Expect to meet on the Internet, so make sure you’re there and looking good. Be responsive to the preferred methods of communication of today’s Buyers. Give them more than they are expecting. You are helping them with one of the most important decisions they will make. Be sure it is just as important to you.
Being a Realtor in Oriental is a privilege. You’ll have the chance to relive the times when you first explored Oriental. You’ll see it through fresh eyes so you won’t take this very special place and its people for granted. And, if you’re like me, you’ll fall in love all over again.
